This year we decided to try out a tradition here in Western Oklahoma and go to the Rattlesnake Festival. They actually release snakes and allow hunters to go and round them up. We were brave and tasted the "fruits" of their labor. I think each piece of snake was $5, so we shared a piece. Even Holland ate some and the girls were not grossed out at all. There is not much meat on a snake.

Merilee and Cara are showing our empty bowl full of snake bones. Good thing we brought lunches, because snake isn't very filling.

We are usually party poopers when it comes to rides at carnivals and State Fairs, but there wasn't really any other hands on activities for the kids so we let them pick one ride. They had a good time on this plane ride but still complained that they couldn't ride more. Rides are expensive these days!!

Here are Merilee, Justin and Cara in front of a cage where they kept a dozen or so rattlesnakes. Their tails were rattling and some even interacted some with the onlookers.

Holland was pretty unimpressed with everything. He got super tired and cranky. He was tired of sitting in the stroller but there were too many people to let him walk. He finally gave out and fell asleep when it was time to go. I took this picture right before I put him in the car.

We needed a new tire, so we went to the Walmart tire center in a nearby town. We had to wait a LONG time, so we spent awhile in the mini arcade in the store. I thought that since Holland didn't get to ride any rides at the festival that he could have a turn in the Mickey Mouse car. And it was MUCH cheaper:) He enjoyed it some, I think. He is rather emotionless a lot of the time, so it is hard to tell if he is having a good time.
Overall, we had fun, saw some neat things made from snakes, the kids got too much sun on their faces, ate snake for the first"ish" time (Justin's had it before), and made some memories. We will probably make this a tradition as long as we live here.

Cara looks a lot older in pictures than she does in person, almost like she is about to turn 5 instead of 4. Its crazy! I can't believe you guys ate snake!!! I would totally have been creeped out the entire time. I love that you called Holland emotionless, he must get that from his least favorite aunt(me). Thanks for the post!~ Morgan
Snake!!!! I don't know if I'm brave enough to eat snake! :) Wahoo for a day of fun!
