We took a day trip over to Santa Monica beach the weekend before school started so enjoy the ocean and pier. The water was a little cold but the waves were too fun to pass up. The girls really enjoyed themselves but Holland was pretty clingy in the water and did not like the waves "chasing" him. It was crowded but we had a picnic on the burning hot beach and came away with some sunburns despite the applications of sunscreen.
After we swam and had lunch we went to the pier which was like an amusement park with restaurants and rides. We let the girls pick out 2 rides each to do. They were pretty tired at this point but had fun people watching and riding their rides.Justin had to walk back to the parking lot to put more money on our space so the kids and I walked out to the end of the pier and the kids thought it was cool to be walking over the ocean and seeing the waves crash under the pier.
We also took a trip up to Tehachapi to check out that town and scope out fabric stores and furniture stores. They had a very clean and cute "main street" and a section with a train theme. Holland loved all the train stuff and the play-on-train. It looks like the slide might have been a little hot in this picture.
We walked a lot! And we walked to central park which was gorgeous with big shade trees and lush grass. It was so nice to feel like we weren't in the desert. The girls said this tree stump was "grandmother willow".
They had a couple of big play toys like this and a gazebo and picnic tables, etc. The perfect place to sit and have a snack in the grass.
We are going back in a couple of days to hopefully buy some living room furniture!
